Four great places to eat and drink in Christchurch

Over recent years, Christchurch has seen an explosion of outstanding places to eat and drink. From the wonderful Riverside complex to classy cocktail bars, to high-end fine dining, to tiny Irish pubs, you’re spoiled for choice these days. Here are four very different - but equally wonderful - culinary experiences in Otautahi.

Inati: for something special

Simon and Lisa Levy know how to give people a wonderful night out in every way (Simon’s experience as head chef at Gordon Ramsay’s The Warrington doesn’t go amiss on the food front). Inati is all about local produce and shared plates prepared with skill and served with love. Spending the evening at the chef’s table, tasting your way through the menu is a joy you won’t easily forget.

Winner of Outstanding Restaurant award in the Canterbury Hospitality Awards.

Little Poms: great cafe food in an iconic building
Situated in the same building as the beloved Pomeroy's Old Brewery Inn, Little Poms serves up breakfasts, brunches and lunches packed with flavour. Delight in classic favourites, or try something with a playful modern twist. And being next to the pub, the wine and craft beer selection isn’t half bad either. Locals love this place for good reason. Winner Outstanding Cafe in the Canterbury Hospitality Awards.

Bar Yoku: Yakitori with a side of fun
Who doesn’t love a bit of tasty theatre? Cosy up in a booth, Isakaya-style, at Bar Yoku and order delicious things on sticks, sushi tacos, fabulous fresh sashimi, and fried shared plates. Watch as the flames at the grill sear and flame your truly authentic Japanese fare.

Winner Outstanding Streetfood/Casual Dining and Emerging Chef in the Canterbury Hospitality Awards.

The Church: casual food and great drinks in a unique space

The latest from Christchurch hospitality legend Nick Inkster, The Church is a masterpiece. Built inside the Trinity Church on the corner of Manchester and Worcester streets, you can have a pint of something cold from Emerson's Brewery in Dunedin, indulge in burgers, pizza and fried chicken, and maybe even catch some live music. The food and drink are great for a casual bite, but it’s the space itself that will truly take your breath away.

Winner - Outstanding Ambience & Design in the Canterbury Hospitality Awards.
